TXAP Reports
From May 19-25 2008 fifty-five tech and video activists gathered in West Java, Indonesia to share code and stories. Organised by EngageMedia and the Jakarta based Ruangrupa Transmission Asia-Pacific brought together projects from 15 different countries, from Japan to India, and China to New Zealand, to discuss ways to most effectively use online video as a social change tool.
Transmission is a network of citizen journalists, video makers, artists, programmers and web producers who are developing online video distribution tools for social justice and media democracy. The objective is to make independent online video distribution possible using Free and Open Source Software by building the necessary tools, standards, documentation and social networks.
TXAP included close to 50 workshops covering video podcasting, video and human rights, collaboration around regional film festivals, developing content management systems for online video distribution, open source development, video streaming and much more.
The 5 days included a series of nightly screenings covering People's Power Indonesia post 1998, counter-globalisation movements, environment and the land, Let’s Talk About Sex baby!, political repression and human rights.
You can find documentation of the event on the wiki here http://wiki.transmission.cc/index.php/Txap. Photos can be found here http://flickr.com/search/?q=txap&m=tags

New Model Video Feed Aggregator Now Online
[http://www.IFIwatch.tv IFIwatch.tv] offers free and easy access to the latest independent videos to shine a light on the problems and practices of development financing institutions worldwide. These are the videos that rarely make it into the mainstream media. Videos that governments and corporations would often rather were not shared....
Critical documentary, protest reports, animations, interviews and more; unheard perspectives gathered from wherever they are published on the net, and transmitted direct to your computer.
Using media RSS, you can now be automatically updated with media in your areas of interest, even making your own online video channel - simply by subscribing to our keyword-based media feeds.
Why are we doing this?
IFIs like the World Bank carefully manage their image in the mainstream press, and increasingly in alternative media such as YouTube. Meanwhile films that give voice to communities devastated by IFI-backed investments, to critical science and analysis, to street protests and civil society campaigns for transparency and accountability, struggle to reach interested audiences.
New technologies of internet TV mean that this is beginning to change.
This free media portal is for educators, activists, journalists, film-makers, students, officials and anyone else interested in what multilateral bodies are doing with our money, our neighbours, and our planet. Once we have this portal working as well as it can be, we aim to provide the software for free to any other networks to share media in their own fields of interest.
How the site works
IFIwatch.tv is regularly updated with independent media on the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF), and Regional Development Banks such as the African Development Bank. Films listed here unveil the realities behind the projects and policies promoted with public money and advertised to 'help the poor' and 'conserve the environment'.
We are working with the [http://Drupal.org Drupal] free and open source software, [http://www.IFIWatchnet.org IFIWatchnet] (connecting organisations worldwide which are monitoring international financial institutions) and the Transmission network (developing online video distribution tools for social justice and media democracy).
Up to date listings of independent films made about the IFIs are collected (using Media RSS and Atom feeds) and displayed here. Each video listing features links to online video producer/distributor contact details (where available). To save you returning regularly in pursuit of new movies, you can subscribe to RSS and Atom feeds from the keywords that most interest you. You will then receive automatic updates when new media is listed in your area of interest. Explanations of these services are here: Using Media RSS and Drupal Aggregation of Media Feeds
How you can help
Search, watch and spread the media! Subscribe to our feeds, suggest new ones, Tell your friends and colleagues about IFIwatch.tv and what can be done now using Drupal and the FeedAPI.
If you know of a film that should be listed in this database, especially if it is not already listed anywhere online, why not register and add the details yourself? This site creates a web page for the film, and enables news of its publication to be syndicated around the web (using media RSS).
If you have a relevant website, please suggest links as appropriate. If you have a video database that generates relevant feeds, definitely be in touch.
We very much welcome help with networking, publicity, development, new services etc. Contact us with any practical questions, suggestions of feeds or videos to feature, offers of technical and financial support etc. E-mail "eyes - at - ifiwatchnet.org"

Indymedia Workshop Had Produced A Simple News Article For Transmission 2008
Artists and Hackers United at Sukabumi
SUKABUMI, West Java - A network of individuals and groups who are into media activism have come together in an event called Transmission Asia-Pacific 2008 (TX-AP) to share their skills on online video distribution and video activism.
TX-AP's programme includes workshops that range from technical topics like using open source video encoders to community-based filmmaking.
Apart from the day-time workshops, there are also screenings every night, the variety and amount of works shown is quite enough for an independent film festival. The informative (and often impromptu) conversations that happened whenever there is opportunity also are sources of ideas for people to work back home or together across a wider region.
The opportunity to build a network of activists from all countries whose interests differ and overlap on issues like community building, poverty, indigenous issues, free and open source software, media freedom, gender issues is also making TXAP a success.
As a matter of fact, we're actually writing this during a workshop about Indymedia itself and everyone's contributing. The Internet's a bit shaky here at the moment so we'll post a lot of photos and videos once we can.
Thanks to the Indymedia workshop at TX-AP, activists from Singapore feel inspired to set up an Indymedia Centre in Singapore.
