EngageMedia and Kunci Cultural Studies Center are pleased to announce the launch of Videochronic. This publication is the result of a collaborative research project charting how activists are engaging with video technologies in Indonesia, addressing some of the issues of technology-mediated social movements, and exploring the potential and limitations of online video distribution.

The past decade in Indonesia has seen a dramatic increase in the use of video as a social change tool by community, campaign and activist organisations. Access to the tools for producing and distributing video have become increasingly democratised over this period.

Plone Video Sprint - Budapest

­EngageMedia is pleased to announce a Plone Video sprint at this years Plone Conference in Budapest, Hungary. The 4 day sprint will be an opportunity for developers to collaborate on open video technologies around the Plone CMS. The sprint will take place from 31st October 2009 to 3rd November 2009, directly after the conference.

TXAP Reports

From May 19-25 2008 fifty-five tech and video activists gathered in West Java, Indonesia to share code and stories. Organised by EngageMedia and the Jakarta based Ruangrupa Transmission Asia-Pacific brought together projects from 15 different countries, from Japan to India, and China to New Zealand, to discuss ways to most effectively use online video as a social change tool.

Transmission is a network of citizen journalists, video makers, artists, programmers and web producers who are developing online video distribution tools for social justice and media democracy. The objective is to make independent online video distribution possible using Free and Open Source Software by building the necessary tools, standards, documentation and social networks.

EngageMedia and Ruangrupa would like to announce Transmission Asia-Pacific, a meeting of video activists and free software developers using online video distribution for social justice and media democracy. The meeting will be happening in West Java, Indonesia from May 19-25 2008.

Plumi 0.2 Released

Today EngageMedia announce a series of major updates to Plumi, the free software video sharing content management system. Plumi enables you to create a sophisticated video sharing and community site out-of-the-box. In a web landscape where almost all video sharing sites keep their distribution platform under lock and key Plumi is one contribution to creating a truly democratic media.

These updates include major enhancements to site speed and reduced server load, a new design and features such as tagging and call outs.

Plumi 0.1 RC2 Released
